The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare alongside the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), has intensified public health surveillance and border screening measures across all international airports and land borders.
The proactive security and health response comes amid heightened global monitoring regarding emerging viral health threats and infectious disease containment strategies coordinated across West Africa and the Africa CDC.
Port Health Services on High Alert
According to operational directives issued to Port Health Services (PHS) at key gateways—including Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, and Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo—health officials have reactivated thermal scanners, mandatory health declaration forms, and isolation holding bays.
Health authorities reassured the public that emergency response teams and multi-sectoral technical working groups remain fully deployed to ensure early detection, rapid contact tracing, and immediate laboratory diagnosis should any suspected case arise.
“Nigeria maintains robust technical capacity and emergency response protocols to safeguard public health at all transit points,” stated a senior health ministry official during a technical briefing in Abuja. “Our surveillance systems are actively monitoring developments in real time, and all state ministries of health have been alerted to maintain high indices of suspicion.”

State-Level Coordination and Public Advisory
State governments across the South-South and Niger Delta regions have been urged to align their rapid response teams with federal guidelines. Public health advisories issued by health agencies encourage citizens to maintain personal hygiene practices, report unusual symptoms promptly to local health facilities, and rely strictly on official updates from government health authorities to prevent public panic.
The Ministry reaffirmed that routine screening protocols remain seamless for incoming and outgoing travelers while ensuring strict compliance with international health regulations.
