Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has strongly linked his administration’s robust workers’ welfare packages—specifically the 13th-month salary initiative—to mandatory electoral support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Speaking in Asaba during the official inauguration of the Delta State APC Campaign Council for the 2027 polls, Governor Oborevwori unveiled his re-election campaign theme as “MORE Plus” and asserted that civil servants and public workers have a clear stake in backing the ruling party’s continuity.
“You Can’t Collect 13th Month and Vote Against APC”
Addressing party stakeholders, cabinet appointees, and party faithful, Governor Oborevwori—who chairs the campaign council—emphasized that the double salary structure implemented for December creates a direct link between worker welfare and administrative loyalty.
“Today civil servants have no choice not to vote us. They have no choice. 13th month salary is huge, times two. Some people don’t understand what 13th month means,” Oborevwori stated. “Whether you’re an appointee, a public servant, or a civil servant, you’re receiving your 13th month in December.”
The governor charged members of the newly inaugurated campaign council to take President Bola Tinubu’s national reform message down to the grassroots, mobilizing voters across all polling units and wards. He noted that the administration’s achievements spanning infrastructure development, healthcare expansion, youth empowerment, and educational upgrades will serve as the bedrock of the campaign.
High-Profile Backing and Campaign Strategy
The inauguration drew key political figures from across the state and the federal level.
- Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme commended the governor for successfully aligning Delta State with federal developmental strides and urged party structures to consolidate local support.
- Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, defended federal economic reforms, explaining that initial policy adjustments were vital to resolving long-standing structural challenges such as fuel subsidy liabilities.
- Delta APC Chairman, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, declared the party’s total readiness to secure victory across all elective positions in 2027.
- Former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, speaking for Delta North, highlighted the momentum generated by the state’s mass political realignments, urging the campaign team to engage voters directly at the grassroots level rather than relying solely on large rallies.
With Senator James Manager named as the Director-General of the campaign council, the ruling party leadership pledged a unified, disciplined mobilization strategy heading into the 2027 election cycle.
